(Lee’s Summit ) - Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to announce that Secondary History teacher Greg Finch was named this year’s winner of the Smart/Maher Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Citizenship Educational Award for VFW Post 5789.
A panel of judges determined that Mr. Finch’s leadership, citizenship, and patriotism demonstrated in his classroom made him worthy of the award. As a winner of the competition, his entry will be forwarded to the VFW District 5 Commander for consideration for additional recognition at the District, State, and National level.
Himself a peacetime veteran, Mr. Finch has taught at SCA since 2001. He and his family are invited to a Patriotic Recognition Ceremony, where he will receive a plaque, certificate of recognition, and monetary prize. Mr. & Mrs. Finch will be matching the financial prize and donating it to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in memory of former SCA student and Iraq War Veteran Robert Geoffrey Long.
