1989

Summit Christian Academy (then called Community Christian School) welcomed 32 students in August 1989. Mrs. Jane Stiglic accepted an offer to teach before we had students or a location to meet. She ministered to our students for 23 years. Mrs. Jennifer Pinkston also joined the school in 1989 and continues to teach elementary band. The school held its first classes at First Assembly of God Lee’s Summit.

1992

As enrollment increased, 3rd-6th grades met at Christ Triumphant church. A long-range planning committee was formed and established a business plan for the school.

1993

School added 7th grade.

1994

School purchased four modular units that were located on the grounds of Lee’s Summit Community Church. SCA continues to use these units.

1995

First 8th grade graduation.

1996

The school’s name was changed to Lee's Summit Community Christian School.

1997

Two grandparents donated $300,000, allowing the school to purchase a 10-acre tract of land where the current elementary building stands.

1998

The school received a $100,000 donation and construction began on a new facility, which is our current elementary building. A $750,000 matching grant was also received, which jump-started the “Build Our School” capital campaign to finance Phase II of the elementary facility.

1999

January. Linda Harrelson was hired as administrator.

2000

The school added a high school program with the addition of 9th grade. The first senior class graduated in 2004.

2002

The school purchased an additional 10-acre tract where the current secondary building stands. To raise funds for construction of the facility, the “Journey of Faith” capital campaign was initiated.

2003

The school was accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and added college credit courses. SCA currently offers 93 college credit hours through St. Louis University and Southwest Baptist University. SCA is dually accredited by ACSI and Cognia.

2004

In January 2007, the secondary facility opened with 234 students in grades 7-12.

2010

SCA named Business of the Year by the LS Chamber of Commerce.

2011

The school’s name was changed to Summit Christian Academy.

2016

SCA kicks off Legacy of Faith Capital Campaign to build 10 new classrooms.

2020

SCA opens the school year on August 19 and launches the eCampus learning platform during COVID-19 Pandemic.

2020

SCA opens the Goppert Classroom Wing in January with ten additional classrooms wing and a new parking lot. The Goppert Classroom Wing includes an additional 11,000 square feet to the secondary building. This wing includes nine interactive classrooms, a nurse's office, and additional restrooms. SCA sets record enrollment of 900 students in January 2021.

SCA breaks ground on a 48,000 sq. ft. Fieldhouse and Activity Center to be completed in Spring 2023.

2023

SCA opened the Fieldhouse and Activity Center with a Ribbon Cutting and Prayer Dedication service in February of 2023.
