Philosophy

The Virtuosity! Program at SCA emphasizes excellence in the arts. Through private music lessons (K-12), worship teams (5-8) and performance opportunities, students develop their talents and use them to glorify the Lord. Students participating in Virtuosity! are encouraged to uphold the highest standards in a personal commitment to both refine their skills and appropriately evaluate the arts.

Lessons Provided

Half-hour lesson slots are available before, during, and after school, depending on teacher availability. Lessons are offered September-May.

Piano - Grades K-12

Violin, Viola - Grades K-12

Guitar - Grades 3-12

Clarinet - Grades 4-12

Flute - Grades 4-12

Saxophone - Grades 4-12

Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone Horn (euphonium) - Grades 4-12

Harp (Prerequisite: 2 years of piano lessons OR proficiency in
note reading and basic rhythms) - Grades 5-12

Percussion/Drum Set - Grades 5-12

Voice - Grades 5-12

Students need to have the proper tools for lessons; i.e., instrument, books, and a quiet place at home for daily practice.

A recital performance opportunity is available each semester.

Program Fees

Registration Fee (due at contract signing) - $35
This fee is for all new students and includes the cost of a Virtuosity! T-shirt or a Virtuosity! Worship Team T-shirt. There is no registration fee for returning students.

Monthly Private Lesson Fee - $99 (unless otherwise specified by the Virtuosity! Director).

Monthly Worship Team Fee - $65 (unless otherwise specified by the Virtuosity! Director).

All fees will be billed on a monthly basis (October-June) through your SCA FACTS account.

For private lessons, the cost of books/materials will be determined by the teacher. Parents are responsible for the cost of book/material purchases and will coordinate this purchase with the teacher. Parents are responsible for providing a good quality instrument for at-home practice.

Virtuosity! 2026-2027 Registration for Private Lessons & Worship Teams

For the 2026-2027 school year, the registration dates are:

Registration for RETURNING students from the 2025-2026 school and/or the 2026 summer session was from July 30-Aug. 2. All other registrations begin on August 3, and any registrations received from Aug 3 on, for both returning and new students, will be prioritized by order of the date/time stamps on the registration forms. Registrations will be accepted until available slots are filled, and then students will be placed on a waiting list. Lessons received during school hours will be subject to principal, and in some cases, classroom teacher approval. Secondary students who have chosen Life Prep as an elective may be able to take lessons during this assigned hour if a teacher and lesson room are available.

Virtuosity! Worship Team

Worship team is an exciting, student-led opportunity for any entry-level musician who is passionate about serving our school in worship from grades 5th–8th. We have two teams—one for 5th–6th grade and one for 7th–8th grade—designed to disciple and equip students in worship leadership. These teams will lead worship music for our elementary (or early ed) chapels on selected dates throughout the school year.

Registration for the Virtuosity! worship teams will begin on July 30 for members from the previous year and on Aug 3 for new registrants. However, the worship team director (Mrs. Natalie Meyer, nataliemeyer@sca-kc.org) will select team members without obligation to the date/time of registration, and tryouts may be required as part of the process.
