Lee’s Summit) – Summit Christian Academy (SCA) is pleased to share that freshman Paige Thomas recently completed the process of presenting, fundraising, creating, and building her Gold Award Project idea of a Percussion Park “Percussion at Play” at Rotary Youth Camp. The project was made possible through her many fundraising presentations raising support and generous donations from multiple local organizations and Rotary Clubs.
Percussion at Play, which celebrated its ribbon cutting and dedication on March 22, includes chimes, xylophones, drums, and more for the Rotary Youth Camp located on Colbern Rd. The Youth Camp serves the special needs youth and young adult population at no cost all summer long. These percussion instruments will provide cost-effective and sustainable entertainment for the campers.
The Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award in Girls Scouts and is awarded to less than 6% of all Girl Scouts.
“This percussion park was installed because I wanted others to have the chance to enjoy music and so that people could make music, either by themselves or with others,” shared SCA freshman Paige Thomas. “Music has many beneficial impacts on people, and can completely change one’s life.”
“SCA is proud of Paige and her leadership and service on campus and in our community,” shared SCA Head of School Mr. Chris Hahn.
