Discovery Program (Serving students in grades 2-12)

The SCA Discovery Program uses the National Institute of Learning Differences (NILD) Educational Therapy® model. This model was developed to treat assumed, underlying identified causes of learning difficulties rather than simply treating the symptoms. It is a true therapy in that it aims the intervention just above the student’s level of functioning and raises expectations for performance. Students are trained to view themselves as competent, confident learners. The goal of NILD Educational Therapy® is to help students develop tools of independent learning in the classroom and in life. Graduates of the program become independent, self-advocating learners who are able to achieve their God-given potential.

Discovery students attend two 90-minute sessions per week with their educational therapist in a one-on-one setting. The Discovery program provides a Classroom Adjustment Privilege plan (CAP) which may modify or accommodate classroom work to meet students' academic needs. Therapists also work closely with the classroom teacher to ensure the best possible learning environment. Pull-out times will be arranged between the therapist and the teacher. Grades at the elementary level may be adjusted per Discovery guidelines. Secondary students may choose Discovery as an elective.

Programs within the SCA Resource Services program are an additional fee for participants who qualify.
