College and Career Information for Sophomores

The SCA College and Career Counseling office has created a checklist that will benefit our Sophomore students.  

Enroll in the most challenging courses.
Talk to a teacher regarding any concerns.
Visit the College & Career Advisor if you need tutoring assistance.
Use a student planner to keep track of assignments, test dates, activities, etc.
Sept. 14:  PLAN Test. For more information, visit www.act.org/path/parents/tests/plan.html.
Maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to qualify for college level classes during your Junior and Senior year.

Get involved in extracurricular activities. They will improve your college résumé later on.
Consider work-based learning opportunities for the summer like internships, work-site field trips, job shadowing, etc.

Plan for the Future
Start thinking about your college and career goals. Consider what you will need to do in order to reach them.
Visit www.missouriconnections.org to research the education and experience required for jobs in which you are interested.
Visit the Academic Advisor for assistance with making an educational plan.
Oct. 12:  The PSAT Test may be taken for practice for the ACT prior to your junior year. The scores from this test determine the eligibility and qualification for the National Merit Scholarship Program.
