Raised in Lee's Summit, Mrs. Kates has been a fifth grade teacher at SCA since 2006. Summit Christian Academy has been a huge part of her family’s life.
“I feel very humbled to be able to teach fifth grade at SCA,” shared Mrs. Kates. “As a child, I attended Lee’s Summit Public Schools. I grew up in church and spent a lot of time working with children and truly enjoyed it.”
Mrs. Kates graduated from Mid-America Nazarene University with an elementary education degree and taught fourth grade in Blue Springs School District.
“I took some time away from teaching after I had my first son Trey,” shared Mrs. Kates. “Then God led me to SCA, where I taught fifth graders for two years. When my second son Mason was born, I again decided to stay home again. I substitute taught for three years here at SCA and in the Lee’s Summit school district. God led me back to fifth grade at SCA six years ago. I’m excited to be teaching where both my kids go to school. It is so encouraging to teach in a place where God is the focus. I feel that Christian education is very important to children in today’s world. I pray that God will use me to daily touch hearts for eternity.”
